DIY Thrifted Dressers turned into Closet Built-in’s

I like to create efficiency in our home, if something isn’t working for us I will rework it until it does.  The closet in our master bedroom has been far less than efficient for a while and I was planning to buy some IKEA wire drawers to add to the bottom of the closet.  Luckily, fate led me to these thrift store beauties! They were double the space of the IKEA ones I had wanted and half the price! They were in rough shape visually but the drawers worked great and overall very sturdy.  I knew they would make the perfect built-ins for our closet!

After I cleaned off all the stickers I got my husband to help me haul them up to our room.  They fit near perfect with just a few inches on each side.  I secured some scrap wood to the wall as blocking and then secured the dressers to them.

Then I covered the blocking and other seams with trim.  Then caulked everything, primed and painted!

Here is what my closet looked like before.  The empty space in the bottom was kind of a dumping ground for random clothes.

Now here is our newly transformed closet! It’s amazing how much storage it adds, and how high end it looks!

I color coordinate my clothes to make it easy to find things – It’s life-changing! (And looks so pretty too!) I kept the paint neutral so that the clothes could shine.  I spray painted the knobs a gilded brass color to add a little glam.

Another game-changer was taking out all the mismatched hangers! It looks so much cleaner and streamlined.  And surprisingly we didn’t even purge any clothes but it still looks so much more organized.

I still can’t believe how perfectly these fit! They were made for this space and now they look like they’ve always been here.

It’s amazing what a little caulk and paint can do. Next time you see a rough-looking dresser at the thrift store, you might want to give it a second look! 😉
