3 DIY Upcycled Earth Day Crafts

Spring may not be as warm as usual up here in Canada, but I still jump at any chance to celebrate this beautiful place we live! I Honestly get more excited about Earth Day than my own birthday! Huge Earth Nerd right here!! 🙂  So I’m giddy at the opportunity to share some easy DIY crafts that can help you reuse, reduce, recycle and celebrate our planet!  They all can be made from items you probably already have at home and your kids can help too! My mini-me was pretty excited to help with these!

DIY Earth Day crafts So without further ado, here are my 3 easy upcycled earth day crafts…

First up:

DIY Toilet Paper Roll Bird Feeder

For this DIY you will need peanut butter, an empty toilet paper roll, and some bird seed.  (If you don’t have any birdseed on hand you can always crush up some nuts or dried breadcrumbs.)DIY Earth Day crafts

Spread the peanut butter all over the toilet paper roll, then dip it in the bird seed until it is fully covered in seeds.

DIY Earth Day craftsThread a string through it and tie a knot.  Hang in a tree and let your birdie friends enjoy! 🙂

Next up,

DIY Seed Paper

For this DIY you will need some shredded paper (any dye-free paper/cardboard will work), water and flower seeds. (Cheerios cereal is giving them away free at the moment to help bring back the bees.  Go to bringbackthebees.ca to get your free seeds!)

DIY Earth Day craftsSoak the paper in boiling water and let it sit for a about an hour.  Then pour mixture into a blender and blend to a pulp.

After blending, strain the extra water from the pulp.  Then place the pulp into your favorite cookie cutter shapes.  Press the seeds on top and into the pulp.  Blot out excess water and let them dry for about 24 hours or until fully dry.  Plant the seed papers into a pot or right into the ground and watch your flowers grow!

These would make a cute Mother’s day gift too! Ready to plant flower seeds! 🙂

And the last one,

DIY Rainbow Crayons

Ok, this last one was more for my mini helper but everybody probably has some broken or old crayons laying around.  It gives a great new life to crayons that otherwise would end up in the garbage…or in the household vacuum in our case…(Oops, sorry, Mr. Dyson.)

Anyways for this, you need some old crayons and some silicon muffin cups or some silicon tray to cook them in.

DIY Earth Day craftsDIY Earth Day craftsPreheat oven to 200 F.  Peel off any remaining paper from the crayons (this actually took a while).  Then, cut up the crayons so they melt evenly and faster. Place them in the silicon molds.  Cook for 10-15 minutes.  Let cool and remove from molds.
