5 DIY Christmas decor ideas!

I’m a born crafter and maker so when it comes to Christmas decor I always try to DIY something before I go spend money on a new version. So I thought it would be helpful to share so if you’re feeling crafty you can save a few bucks too! Here are 5 DIY’s I’ve used for years or tried new this year!

1. Make your own wood bead garland.

I love the look of wood bead garland, and it translates well with any style, but it can be a bit pricey.  This year I found some wooden beads on clearance at Micheals and decided to make my own.  This bead set on amazon is a great price if you want to try and make some too!

2. Paint old ornaments.

I did this a couple of years ago for my Christmas decor.  I had a huge pack of red ornaments that I had found on clearance for a few dollars and I wanted more variety in the colors so I pulled out the paints and gave them a whole new look.  See how they turned out in this post!

3. Use craft paper to make your own paper garlands or paper chains.

I’m an avid crafter so I always have odds and ends on hand so a few years ago I made some paper garland for the windows.  We have two bay windows at the front of our house and these garlands added such a fun detail that we could see inside and outside.

Another year I also cut out little circles in various colors and spread them on the table like confetti. So simple but so impactful!

4. Put tree clippings in vases.

This is one of my favorite decor ideas for Christmas! If you don’t have pine trees in your yard take a walk to the park and snip a couple of branches. It looks so high-end but, is literally free!

5. Stuff your faux garland with real branch clippings.

I love the look of real garland but it can be so pricey so here is a way to cheat that look.  I did this last year with my Christmas decor and now I’m going to continue doing this every year! I had a cheap plastic garland that I tacked to the mantle and then cut some cedar and pine clippings from the trees outside and tucked them into the faux one and it looks like a million bucks! You can add ribbon or flowers for more impact too.
