A bit more about me.

Hi I’m Suzanne and I’m a Home Design fanatic! This is the place where I share all the beautiful things that inspire me and the projects that have resulted from those inspirations.

One question I get asked all the time is how did you know this was what you wanted to do?

Honestly, I think some of it was genetic and the rest was born out of opportunity. My parents were frugal but creative and taught me early how to create what I wanted from simple means. They were also very uninterested in home design but were happy to let me try my hand at it. I was lucky enough to have my own room and my first color of choice was a royal blue on all the walls with a sunset mural on one. They didn’t really care what I did with the decor in my room as long as it was clean, so I was always rearranging it and creating new looks. At one point my mom even let me paint our laundry room lime green. My color choices were a bit extreme back then but it was the starting point of stretching my creative muscles.

In high school, art class was my favorite but it wasn’t my only passion. After meeting with one of those career counselors I landed on Interior design as my career goal. At the time there was not much for industry examples and the job market was slim but there was just something inside of me so passionate about helping others create beautiful spaces. I found a post-secondary school that had a program in it and I started working towards it.

The year after high school, I went to NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) for the Interior Design Technologist program. A few years later I married my husband Brock Kryton and bought our first home. After living in rented spaces for years, I was ready to apply everything I learned.

Suzanne Kryton Designs came to fruition when I was in the thick of raising babies in our humble first home. I wanted to share my budget design ideas with others and keep flexing those creative muscles like I had growing up. I started blogging about our home renovations and came to realize there was so much I could do with a small budget and I hope it inspires you to create a home you can truly enjoy being in!

The blog was just the beginning and it turned into a business where I could share my passions with others and guide them in creating a home that reflects their style and brings them joy to be in!
