Modern Rustic Bathroom Refresh (on a Budget!)
A couple of months ago I mentioned helping my Mom and Dad update their guest bathroom. It was going to be a quick budget update with some paint and new linens. But, COVID put all of it on hold for a few months. Last week I was finally able to get back out there and finish it up.Originally we were going to just paint the walls, add a new shower curtain, and hang some art. But as we were waiting for a chance to finish, my sister, who works in construction, asked if I wanted some 1x8 pine that was just going to be thrown in the dumpster at work. Umm YES! Give me all the free wood supplies! She brought us a whole truckload. We cut the wood down to 1x3 planks and then used it to make a board and batten detail around the bathroom. We painted the beige walls white and the board and batten blue. My Mom had the paint on hand from another project. My mom also decided she wanted to update the flooring while we were at it, so we added that to the list. She hired someone to come and do that since I wasn't able to come out for a bit. Even with this small addition to the scope of work we were able to keep it super budget-friendly. I'll breakdown the budget a bit further down, but let's just get to the pretty photos! Here is a reminder of how it looked before. Beige, brown, blah everything. And now AFTER! I'm so in love with how it turned out!We updated the flooring, added board and batten, painted, got a new shower curtain, new artwork, new towels, and new shower mat. Can you even believe it's the same space! And now for the best part: It only cost $270 in total! Here's the budget breakdown:
- Vinyl plank tile (Co-op Hardware Store) - $150
- Towels (Walmart) - $30
- Towel hooks (Lowes) - $24
- Silver picture frames ($3 each Dollerstore) - $9
- Botanical Art (Free download ) -$0
- Gold frames and art (Thrifted) -$15
- Shower Curtain (Walmart) - $20
- Bath mat (Walmart) - $22
- Pine Boards for Board and Batten (Free from my sister's job site) $0
- Paint (Had on-hand) $0
Even if you were to purchase the pine boards and paint it could still be an under $500 update! So affordable! The art above the toilet was a vintage piece I found at a thrift store months ago. The warmth of the brass frame adds the perfect touch to balance out the cooler tones and chrome finishes. I love mixing metals finishes in a room. While we were adding the board and batten we decided to frame in the builder mirror as well to make it look like a custom piece.I found the other brass frame at a thrift store and created some modern abstract art for it. I used a dry paintbrush and dipped it in the paint and then slowly dragged it along the paper. These botanical prints were a free download from Simply made by Rebecca blog. One more before and after, because it is just sooo good! All Photography by Brock Kryton Photography.I hope you enjoyed this fun bathroom makeover!
