DESIGN,  ROOM REVEALS

Traditional Eclectic Entryway and Living Room

Well hello, blog world! It may seem a bit cliche but this first blog post is dedicated to my parents, and coincidentally this is their house.  They are very much “function-over-fashion” people but they are so supportive of my design endeavors and were willing to let me add a bit of style to their space. Thanks, Mom and Dad!…Ok sappy part over, on to the details of their space!Modern entryway. Transitional design.

My parents LOVE culture from all around the world, (my Dad especially) so I wanted to create a nice welcoming art piece that gave you a feel for the rest of the space beyond.  I hand painted “hello” in several languages.  It took a lot of time but was well worth it!Hello sign. Here is a glimpse of the entry before.  The artwork was hung too high and the walls lacked character.  The lack of wall storage left a lot of stuff piled on the floor as well.

To bring this entry back to life wainscotting was added to the adjacent wall.  The entry was just bland and boring before so this gave it character and a convenient place to hang coats and keys.  The bright white also makes this space feel light and airy, giving you a peaceful welcome as you enter.Modern entryway. As you head up the stairs the living room welcomes you.  We changed the old furniture that was oversized and taking over space to room appropriate sized ones.  The family’s photos were arranged into a gallery wall, custom roman shades were made and souvenirs from their favorite cultures were arranged in vignettes throughout the room.Modern living room. This is the space before.  Oversized furniture from the client’s previous home was crowding the space.  The room needed some love and organization to make the client’s souvenirs and collectibles arranged in a way that showcased their beauty.

I was able to showcase their collections in several vignettes throughout the room.Modern living room. Transitional design.Modern living room. Transitional design.Modern living room. Transitional design. Gallery wall.Modern living room. Transitional design.

The details in the small vignettes around the room pull it all together into one cohesive style.  The clients are quite traditional but the eclectic details give the space an overall transitional style.Modern living room. Transitional design.Modern living room. Transitional design.

These rooms were so fun to design and style and now when I visit my parents we can all relax in style! 😉
