One Room Challenge Spring 2020 – Week 1 – Patio Moodboard

Hi!

It’s been a while since I dusted off my blogging skills, but get ready because I’ve got 8 solid weeks of blogging coming at you!

I have been wanting to participate in the One Room Challenge for several years but timelines and budgets have gotten in the way.  We hadn’t even fully committed to the project yet but on a whim, I signed up for the challenge just in case!  We’ve been talking about updating our outdoor space for a few years but the One Room Challenge usually happens in April which is still pretty much winter here, but this year since it was delayed due to the pandemic I figured I could actually participate.

If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge it is a biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Anyone can participate as a guest participant as well.  It is a fun, supportive community to share the process of transforming a room.

Go check out all the other participants here at the ORC Blog page.

Alright on to our outdoor space.  Here my mood board for our plans.  I want it to have a modern global vibe with a very neutral base, layered with pops of color, textiles, and decor.  We will be building a deck off our back door (which is actually a side door-our house has two side doors instead of a front and back door) and then possibly adding a covered pergola for some privacy from the neighbors.

Now let me show you what this space looks like right now.  Currently, you open the back door to a drop-off and some garbage cans, so anything will be an improvement.

We will be demoing the garden bed (nothing seems to grow on this side of the house anyway) to add more width to our patio and I’ll be finding some creative ways to cover up all the power and gas lines.

Here’s the view from the other side.  It’s only about 7′ wide so it’ll be a cozy patio but I’m excited to make the most of it! One Room Challenge here we go!

Thanks for popping by! And don’t forget to go see all the other participants’ spaces on the ORC Blog page!
