Neutral Christmas Home Tour 2019

Looking back on the year so far, I feel like it has been a year of learning to say no to all the extra things that aren’t necessary for my life right now and just focus on being present with my babies; so, when I was planning out my Christmas decor, I knew I wanted to keep it simple and neutral.  I really enjoy the bright, eclectic Christmas decor too—like I did last year—but with 3 kids and so much busyness already, I chose to keep our Christmas decor simple; this way, our home could feel festive, but remain peaceful.

Over the years, I have been given a lot of ornaments from my mom who likes to buy things on after-season blowout sales. I’ve bought a few quirky colorful ornaments too, so I have a rainbow of ornaments to choose from.

I started with the silver and white, and then I added a few subtle pops of blue; then, I strung on some paper garland that I had previously made and I finished it off with a bit of gold ribbon.

I have a prelit tree—a hand-me-down that has served us so well—but a few lights have died; so, I added in a strand of large bulb lights to hide those dimmer parts.  I love the extra glow it gives to the tree.

The fireplace mantle already had this vintage winter painting on it, and I was going to change it up; however, once I had decided on the neutral and blue palette for the tree, it just fit perfectly—so I left it!  I kept the rest of the mantle fairly simple by adding a few candles on brass candlesticks (that I thrifted) and then strung up some fake garland.  I clipped some branches from our cedar tree and stuck them into the fake garland to make it look expensive and real.  I love how it turned out!

One of my girls’ favorite decorations is the fabric nativity that my mom made for them.  I love that it lets them learn the Christmas story and become familiar with the true reason for celebrating.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints just released this amazing video that depicts the story of the Christ child. I highly recommend it! You can watch it here.

When I do a Christmas tour photoshoot I always like to set up a tablescape to tie the whole room together.  I will recreate this simple tablescape when we host some of our family for holiday meals.  My kids and I also made some paper garlands that add the sweetest holiday touch to the window.

I mixed a few neutral, green, and blue placemats over a white table runner and then topped it off with some candles and a sprinkling of pine tree branches and pinecones.  So simple and classy, and it all came from things I already had or found outside in my yard!

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas tour! My girls are getting old enough to understand more of the Christmas traditions and I’m so excited to celebrate with them this year! Wishing you all the best this Christmas season! It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
