DESIGN,  ROOM REVEALS

Reveal Day for my Budget Bathroom Refresh!

Back In February I was dying of cabin fever and decided to refresh our main bathroom. I would have loved to gut the whole thing but we decided to renovate our family room instead (stay tuned 😉 ) so this makeover was a compromise to help me love it for a few more years because I was just sick of it. It was going to be a super quick makeover using some leftover paint I had on hand and I figured I’d be done in a week or two… Welp spoiler alert, it’s now July! Life with kids and client work got a little too busy for me to handle and it took me a bit longer than I thought to wrap this up.

Let me give you a quick recap of what I changed in the room. I painted it all my favorite green “Oakmoss” by Sherwin-Williams (leftover from our Guest room). Once I did that I realized the green all over was too dark for me so I decided to break it up by adding some board and batten trim around the lower half. I painted this white and then spent a couple of months trying to find the perfect floral curtain for the shower that was within budget (My original mood board got revamped a few times). Once I finally found my curtain unicorn I finished it up with some fresh art and gold hardware. We also added a tall cabinet from IKEA to hold more of our bathroom supplies since all 5 of us share this bathroom it was getting a bit cramped in the vanity.

And now for the long-awaited reveal. Here it is before. It was fine but just boring and for a space I use several times a day I needed something a little happier to be in.

And now the after!

I made a No-Sew Curtain to cover our laundry hamper and it makes the space look so chic and custom! I shared a little how-to video on my Instagram page.

The art was all FREE to download from museum archives. A fellow blogger ‘Ahomeisannounced’ has compiled her favorites here. The variety is so good and honestly who can say no to legally free art?

I mixed a few floral prints with some modern sketches for a curated look. Then on the other side of the room, I added a pair of vintage floral sketches.

Now before I share the other side let me explain WHY I wanted NEEDED  a full-length curtain for our shower. Someone in the 80’s decided that sunken tubs were a thing and then when they built this bathroom they added a 4′ tall shower door. This creates several problems; 1. Risk of smacking your head when you get in the shower, and, 2. Having a freezing shower because all the steam goes right out over my head due to the massive gap over the door! 🙁 I don’t know why I let it go so long without adding a curtain but I finally got fed up with having half-warm showers. See the picture below.

Now a moment for my floral curtain unicorn. 🙂 I LOVE this curtain and it’s from Amazon! My husband is always bashing Amazon but I can’t live without the convenience of it so I’m always on a mission to find GREAT quality pieces from Amazon and these curtains are high on the list! The fabric is linen blend so it looks very high end and this particular pattern is the perfect vintage floral that looks like hand-painted fabric. 5 stars for sure! It comes in several patterns so check them out.

The shower side of the bathroom is much more functional now that we have this tall cabinet. It is the NYSJON from IKEA. I added new (old) hardware to it and the cupboard beside that I found at the Restore. I love looking for drawer pulls there and you can find some nice antique ones like these for just $1 each!

On the other wall, I continued with the gold theme and added more hooks for everyone’s towels, and topped it with some artwork from my husband’s late Aunt. I love that it is a unique floral piece and the 3 tulips are all different and it reminds me of my 3 daughters.

This refresh obviously didn’t end up being free like I originally planned but for a couple of hundred dollars I’m so in love with it again and I can definitely tolerate it for a few more years! The power of paint and a little DIY work can make miracles happen!
